Our Cool Kids In The Community is a menu of ideas to help you choose the best way for you or your organization to help. These are just ideas to get you started, we welcome any fundraising ideas you might have. Be as creative as you like with these ideas or your own!
We like to focus on getting kids involved in helping other kids. We believe that philanthropy starts young and once children experience the rewards of helping and giving that this will stay with them for their lifetime.

How your group, school or neighborhood
can help children with cancer
Our Cool Kids in the Community initiative was started in response to the many requests we were receiving about how you can help. The trend toward helping others has been growing and is becoming a major part of our youth's development in character building.
All proceeds from the Cool Kids in the Community projects go towards the Cool Kids Campaign goal of making life more fun and enjoyable to the children who are currently going through their cancer treatments. Your help will bring a smile to the face of another child.
Our menu of Cool Kids in the Community projects:

Cancer Fears Me Designated Patient Fundraising
Our Cancer Fears Me program gives a strong positive voice to every cancer
patient, caregiver and support group. Through our Cancer Fears Me
merchandise you are able to raise money for any cancer patient you know.
It's so easy…
- Confirm that your "Designated Patient" is registered with us. If not, we'll send you a verification form. Once we receive their verification we will assign them a Designated Patient number. We only need one verification form per patient. If we already have it, we will just give you their number.
- Fill in the patient's name and their Designated Patient fundraising number on the order forms.
- Distribute catalogs and order forms to friends and family.
- Purchasers can return orders directly to Cool Kids Campaign (make sure patient number is included) or collect and send in forms yourself.
- Orders will be shipped to each customer – no need to sort and deliver!
- Cool Kids Campaign sends 25% of every sale directly back to the Designated Patient.
- Orders can also be placed online at www.cancerfearsme.org.
Cool Kids Reading Challenge
Our Cool Kids Reading Challenge is generally hosted through a school- public,
private, parochial or preschool. Starting with the 2008/09 school year we
will be offering the reading challenge as an open enrollment, meaning each
school can choose when they would like to hold on and for how long.
The Reading Challenge is a read a thon that challenges the students versus their teachers and parents, to see who can read the most minutes in a 2 to 4 week time frame.
Each student gets pledges for their participation and receives prizes based on their pledge earnings.
The Cool Kids Reading Challenge has been a very successful incentive for the schools to promote reading within their student body while teaching their kids about helping others.
What is included in your Cool Kids Reading Challenge kit?
- Pledge envelopes
- Reading logs
- Cool Kids Campaign informational DVD featuring Kimmie Meissner
- We provide all prizes at the end of the challenge
Cool Kids Café
Our Cool Kids Café provides the opportunity for groups of young people to
experience running a restaurant for the day. You choose the location, set a
budget, determine the prices, advertise or invite diners, it's all up to you and
your group!
Some ideas based on past successes:
Locations: Church hall, school cafeteria, someone's home.
Menus: Usually depends on age of children and time of day. Sometimes themes work well too. Anything from standard lunch or
dinner menus to ice cream/dessert events, crab café's, whatever your
imagination can create!
How it raises money: Once you serve your guests their meal, you
present them with their "check." Just like at a real restaurant. The
proceeds from their guest checks are donated to the Cool Kids
Campaign.
What is included in your Cool Kids Café fundraising kit?
- Cool Kids Café napkins
- Cool Kids Campaign informational DVD featuring Kimmie Meissner
- Copies of our Cool Kids Connection paper so your attendees can see how your hard work is helping

Cool Kids Cutouts
The Cool Kids Cutouts are ideal for a business, school, library, or mall. Anyone who has an area to display a large grouping of paper cutouts.
The diamond shaped cutouts can be bar coded to make it very easy to add this donation to your customers purchase. Or schools can set up a table before school, at lunch and any after school events to collect the $1 donation. Each donor is able to sign their cutout and hang it on display for all to see.
What is included in your Cool Kids Cutout kit?
- Cutouts
- Cool Kids Cutout promotional signs (8.5" by 11")
Roll a Thon
Hosting a roll a thon is a fun way to pull your community together, all ages
and athletic abilities, to come together to help a great cause.
The Roll a Thon is a twist on a traditional walk a thon. Just bring your bike, skates, scooters, stroller, wheelchairs, even walkers! Roll a Thons are best held on a community bike path or in a neighborhood. You can plot out the course you want people to follow, gather your participants, have them get pledges and you are on your way!
As with all our fundraisers, your Roll a Thon will have your personality and your "stamp" all over it. If you want to plan activities or games for the rollers to do along your route, if you want to have refreshments at the end, whatever your imagination comes up with is perfect!
What is included in your Roll A Thon fundraising kit?
- Pledge forms
- Cool Kids Campaign balloons
Cool Kids Birthday Party
The Cool Kids Birthday party is perfect for the kids who already have so
much. We have found that this idea is really catching on. Even the kids
themselves admit they don't really want or need anything. Having their
friends come help them celebrate their special day is really all they want.
Just invite your friends, ask them in lieu of a present to bring a donation made out to the Cool Kids Campaign, and make your special day a special day for the pediatric oncology patients you have helped. Your donations will be used to buy the gifts for our Cool Kids Care Packages.
