The Cool Kids Reading Challenge is a program for schools to get their students involved in helping others while promoting reading. It's really easy for the schools and teachers, we provide all the materials as well as cash back for the classrooms and school at the end of your reading challenge.
New for the 2008/2009 school year
We now offer the Cool Kids Reading Challenge at any time during the school year so that your school can decide what time of year works best for them! You can also determine the length of the challenge - 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks!
AND you can use the Reading Challenge as a fundraiser for your school and teachers as well! Your school will get a check back for 15% of the total pledges raised and each teacher will get back a gift certificate for 10% of what their class raises to be used for their classroom.
The Cool Kids Reading Challenge is open to all schools in the United States.
What is the Cool Kids Reading Challenge?
The Cool Kids Reading Challenge is a fundraiser that enables schools and their students to help kids with cancer while encouraging the joy and importance of reading at the same time.
How does it work?
It's so easy to do. We supply the reading logs and any support the teachers need during the challenge. The kids keep track of how many minutes they read each day. At the end, each teacher receives a gift card to Lakeshore Educational Stores equal to 10% of the pledges their class raises. And the school gets back 15% of the total that the school raises.
How can I register my school?
Download the current school registration form and email, fax or snail mail back to us at sharon@coolkidscampaign.org, fax 410.560.1775 or Cool Kids Campaign, 9711 Monroe Street, Cockeysville, MD 21030.

Steve Rouse, longtime (VERY longtime) Baltimore Radio Announcer, joins 3rd Grade Students at Carroll Manor Elementary to read his new favorite book, Pirates Don't Change Diapers. Here they are before the reading.
And now AFTER Steve's rendition of the story......

"Uncle Steve" looks so comfy in his rocking chair.

Tom Matte poses with the Morning Announcement staff at Northwest Middle School in Taneytown, MD where he even got to autograph his first flip flop!

Tom Matte and the Northwest Middle Morning Sports Announcer, Brittany. She was so good she was able to give Tom a few broadcasting tips.

Since we don't want Tom Matte to get lazy in the football off-season we then took him over to West Middle School in Westminster, MD. West Middle rewarded their top readers as of 3/28 with a photo session with Tom. Each of these students had already read at least 5 books, just 3 days into the Reading Challenge!
